Mino Ware Incense Burner

ARCHIVED

An incense burner fired in Mino in the early Edo period. A rare piece that is not cylindrical, but rather has a bowl shape. It has a shallowly carved base, and the feldspar glaze covers until the waist. It is thought to be an incense burner because it has a kemuri-gaeshi, the inward rim to stuff the smoke, but its actual purpose is still being determined as there is no similar example. It looks like the potter fired it for his own use, and its functional and simple beauty is preferable.

Several hairlines run through it, one of which is shaped like a Y-shape. In addition, there are chips on the base and kiln scratches, such as sticking marks.
