Qing Dynasty Cizhou-type Ware Blue and White Slip Plate with Arabesque Design
ARCHIVED
A blue and white plate fired in the Shanxi region between the end of the Qing dynasty and the Republic of China period. It was likely produced by one of the kilns south of Jiexiu. It is applied white slip and decorated with spirals, floral patterns, and arabesque designs. Only the floral patterns are stamped, while the rest are hand-painted. The plate’s design composition reflects the transitional period in Chinese society at that time, marked by increasing contact with Western aesthetics.
Some Mushikui unglazed spots around the rim were seemingly caused during firing. Other than natural kiln damages, there are no other noticeable defects.
