Joseon Dynasty Buncheong Ware Muji-Hakeme Type Dish

ARCHIVED

A Buncheong ware dish fired in the early Joseon dynasty, finished in the style commonly known as Muji Hakeme — slip-brushed in white clay only on the front surface. The lustrous sheen and kiln cracks from high firing, together with the incised concentric rings, evoke the wares of the Gyeryongsan kilns, though the spurmarks in the well present a somewhat different character. The thick, cloud-like coat of white slip and the richly translucent glaze lend the piece a striking presence, even among others of its kind.

An exqisite Gintsugi restration is applied on the kiln crack extending from the rim toward the centre. Minor glaze flaking and small chips are also present.
