Jun Ware Small Celadon Jar | China, 11-12C

A small jar covered with opaque celadon glaze called moon white glaze. It was made in part of Jun ware kiln, one of the five great kilns of the Song dynasty in China. It is highly possible that it was made in the early days of Jun ware, assuming from the characteristics of narrower vessel shape towards a small base, and is glazed around the base.

The glaze pops during firing, and the uncovered surface is exposed many spots. In a word, it’s a misfired work, but it creates an attraction which perfect work doesn’t have.

There is one chip on the base, but there are no other notable defects.
