Betal Container | Thailand 18CSOLD OUT
A container for tobacco made in Thailand. Repeatedly painted lacquer on a bamboo knitted container and patterns are engraved on it, and then colored with color lacquer. This kind of lacquer betal ware are traditionally made in Thailand and Burma. That’s unbealivable that these countless dots and delicate borders are all drawn by hand.
This excellent craft was noticed by Japanese tea masters and was introduced into the tea ceremony from the 14th century. It seems that it was used as a container of piece of aromatic tree. And these pieces were copied in Japan afterwords.
Good condition. There is a slight lack of lacquer inside, but it is not noticeable.
