Goryeo Celadon Jar | Korea, 11-12C¥22,000 JPY
A Goryeo celadon jar that retains the vestiges of ancient earthenware. It may have been fired in Haenam, Incheon, or another local kiln on the Korean peninsula.
The clay includes gravel, and the potter’s wheel with clear irregularities is left on the body. Whereas Gangjin celadon was aimed to supply in the capital, such crude celadon was in response to the demands of local temples, government offices, and gentry.
There are no notable defects other than some stains on the flat bottom. The whole is slightly inclined, but it still stably stands.
