Joseon Dynasty White Porcelain “Yawarakade” Flat Cup | Korea, 15C

A coarse white porcelain flat cup fired in the early Joseon dynasty. The shape of the vessel is wavy, and the backside is undulating by the potter’s wheel mark.

It has a soft texture like Kohiki (white slip), but the engobe was not applied. Therefore, it is a type of white porcelain so-called “Yawarakade” (means soft type), which is a kind of Katade type white porcelain from Gyeongsangnam-do. A light pink tone spreads over the surface covered with fine crackle glaze, creating a multi-layered landscape.

Although it is an excavated item, it maintains a glossy surface. There are two minor hairlines and slight stains, but no other notable damages.
