Seto Ware Semi-porcelain Trinket Box | Japan, 19C

A semi-porcelain trinket box made in the Seto and Mino region during the end of the Edo period to the Meiji period. It was probably used as a cosmetic or medicine container. The linear shape that seems to be ahead of the later Art Deco style and the bluish transparent glaze reminiscent of the blue-white porcelain of the Song dynasty show a beautiful harmony.

It is highly versatile in both capacity and shape and can be used in various ways such as an incense container. There are some hairlines and chips, but those are old and got fitted.
