Qing Dynasty Cinnabar Glazed Cups with Plum Branches Design, Set of 2 | China, 19C

A pair of small cups from the end of Qing dynasty. Both cups have a supple form and is covered with a dark cinnabar glaze over plum branches design. The well-sculpted brown clay and thick vessel walls suggest that they were fired in the private kilns of Jingdezhen.

The unintentional differences in size between the two pieces show the handwork of the late Jingdezhen kilns, which were on the verge of nationalization. There are minor kiln scratches but both pieces are in very good condition.
