Joseon Dynasty Buncheong Ware Bowl with Inlay Decoration

ARCHIVED

A Buncheong ware bowl, fired in the early Joseon dynasty. Rising gracefully from a small foot, the vessel assumes a well-balanced and dignified form. Refined inlaid decoration in white slip is applied to both interior and exterior surfaces, demonstrating careful workmanship. The gently lustrous glaze presents a soft mint-green tone, quietly enveloping the white inlay beneath.

The quality of the decoration suggests a date in the early fifteenth century, when Buncheong ware still retained its status as an official ware. Though possessing a certain formality, the bowl remains approachable in character, equally suited to the presentation of tea sweets or to daily use. Its restrained elegance allows it to settle naturally into contemporary life.

Two hairlines are visible at the rim, along with a restored chip measuring approximately 1 cm. Around the base, areas of the glaze have fused insufficiently, resulting in a matte texture. Accompanied by a fitted wooden box.
