Joseon Dynasty Buncheong Ware Mishima Type Cup

¥52,000 JPY

A Buncheong ware sake cup fired in the early Joseon dynasty. This type of inlaid design piece is called “Sanggam Buncheong” in Korea and “Mishima-de” in Japan. And this piece is an early example of the Mishima type. It features a chrysanthemum flower motif in the centre, surrounded by intricate fine swirls. Some of the white slip shows brush-like marks, though the brush mark-slip decoration, known as Hakeme, did not emerge as a design element until much later.

Having been in use for a long time, the cup has developed a lustrous surface, and the white slip displays tasteful, natural staining. The three chips on the lip have been carefully repaired with Gintsugi. The cup is accompanied by a box.
