Obori Soma Ware Green Glazed Dish with Scalloped Rim

ARCHIVED

An Obori Soma ware green glazed dish made in the late Edo period. The copper-green glaze is applied entire body except for the base, and some parts along the scalloped rim are transparent. Also, the shape resembles the Ofukei ware in Seto, but this piece has a more generous impression. As well as other fork kilns in Japan, Obori Soma ware of that time was influenced by the largest ceramic industry sites, Seto and Mino, but the scalloped rim dish like this piece is scarce. The surface that has been well-used and has grown rich in taste is attractive.

Despite it has been used, there are almost no acquired defects, only a minor chip on the lip and little shavings on the base.
