Ming Dynasty Cizhou-Type Ware Black Glazed Bottle
¥32,000 JPY
A Temmoku—black glazed bottle from a Cizhou-type kiln, Ming dynasty. With its slightly distorted cylindrical form and small mouth, it is unusual among Cizhou-type bottles for having black glaze applied almost to the base, lending it a subtly modern presence. Warm brown tones bleed along the contours of the vessel, dissolving into the black glaze in a manner of quiet beauty; when used as a flower vase, it would bring a subdued play of shadow to the space.
Flake losses to the glaze on the shoulder and chips to the foot rim are firing flaws caused by kiln adhesion. A minor chip is visible on the mouth rim; otherwise, it is in good condition.
