Nagayo Ware White Porcelain Cup
A small white porcelain sake cup, fired at the Nagayo kiln in the mid-Edo period. The vessel is modest in scale and neatly proportioned, its clear white surface carrying a faint bluish tint. The Nagayo ware was operated as a subsidiary of the Hasami ware, producing everyday wares of a similar type and character.
Slightly smaller than the standard sobachoko, this example is unusually diminutive for a plain white porcelain cup, making it a comparatively rare size within the type. Its restrained form and unadorned surface embody a beauty grounded in utility, well-suited to quiet evening drinking.
We applied Kintsugi restoration to a small chip on the rim. Apart from minor kiln damage, there are no notable flaws, and the overall condition is good.
