A soba choko cup, fired at Seto during the late Edo period. The vessel is made of a soft earthenware body and decorated with a single band of abstract wave motifs painted in cobalt blue. Over this lies a smooth, richly textured glaze whose mellow character recalls that of Ofukei ware. While the application of underglaze blue on an earthenware body invites comparison with both Ofukei and Taihaku-de traditions, the glaze quality and overall style suggest a distinct group of wares separate from either category.

Most soba choko of this type possess a simple cut foot, yet the present example is unusual in having a clearly defined footring, with the footrim itself folded inward in a highly distinctive manner. Such treatment is rarely encountered. The gentle glaze surface, animated by the drifting cobalt-blue waves, lends the piece a quiet charm and exemplifies the understated appeal of Seto blue-and-white ceramics.

Several lines resembling hairlines can be seen around the rim, though only a few clearly extend through the body. A small chip is present on the footrim. Overall, the piece remains in good condition.
