Yingge Ware Dish with Shore and Palm Tree Design

ARCHIVED

A pottery dish fired in Yingge, Taiwan. The light blue trim and the inscribed pattern on the back show the characteristics of the 1950s. The scenery of the palm trees rise on the shore is drawn with a dynamic brushstroke, and the tropical breeze that is not found in other East Asian pottery has imbued on the dish.

This tropical folk-art pottery was produced in response to domestic demand, like Vietnam’s Sông Bé ware. There are some hairlines and minor chips on the rim, but the condition is generally good. It has tasteful stains caused by use.
