Yuan Dynasty Cizao Ware Green Glazed Ding Shaped Incense burner
ARCHIVEDAn Cizao ware incense burner fired during the Yuan dynasty. The Ding-shaped vessel is coated with green glaze over white slip. The bottom is unglazed and put simple feet. In Quanzhou’s ceramic industry, alongside Dehua ware, Cizao ware produced numerous exports to Southeast Asia, West Asia, and East Africa. This particular piece was crafted to meet the demands of regions with prevalent Taoist beliefs, embodying a simple yet sublime appearance that vividly conjures the rising incense smoke.
The unglazed interior exhibits carbonization and darkening. Minor issues include scratches, glaze flakings, and dirt adhesion, with one visible hairline. It remains durable and practical.
