Seto Ware Luzhu-Oribe Style Petal Shaped Dish with Chrysanthemum Design in Relief

ARCHIVED

A petal-shaped dish made in the Seto region in the late Edo period. The chrysanthemum and jewels design in relief made by stamp moulding gives an elegant impression. A group of this type of green glaze called “Luzhu” uses a unique copper glaze that is different from Oribe ware from the Momoyama period or the revival Oribe of the same period, and the colouring varies from dark green to yellowish green. This piece is rich, bright green and shows beautiful glass-like glaze pools.

There is a chip on the lip and kiln damage on the base. Other than that, there are no noticeable defects, and the condition is generally good.
