Joseon Dynasty Katade-Type White Porcelain Cup

ARCHIVED

A cup made in the early Joseon dynasty. It was a ritual ware with a straightforward bowl shape resembling a smaller version of a tea bowl. Inside the sandy footring, a swirl mark known as Tokin can be seen, while the shrunk glaze around the waist creates a striking scenery. Such small-sized cups are extremely rare among the coarse white porcelain of the early Joseon dynasty, known as Katade-type. The sparkle of the interior when it is filled with sake is dazzling.

It has already been used for a long time, and the sandy base and the exposed areas where the glaze has shrunk have become smooth touch. There is a chip and minor glaze flakings on the lip. The crackle lines have never go through the exterior. It comes with a box.
