Ming Dynasty Cizhou-type Ware Small Plates, Set of Two
ARCHIVEDSet of two small plates fired in a Cizhou-type kiln during the Ming dynasty. The pieces feature a deep body coated with white slip and covered with a transparent glaze. Each piece has Janome unglazed ring mark and a wide, unglazed area around the base remains. These plates are distinctive for their petite size and their relatively thin moulding, which sets them apart from typical Cizhou-type pieces. The faded, stained surface and simple, naive painting highlight their understated charm, evoking the influence of Cizhou wares on Japanese Mingei aesthetics.
One plate has a single visible hairline, while there are no other noticeable defects.
