Goryeo Celadon Cup with Inlaid Black and White Abstract Pattern

ARCHIVED

A celadon cup fired towards the end of the Goryeo dynasty. Similar cups were included in a group of celadons salvaged from the Doripo seabed in Muan County, and it is estimated to date back to the second half of the 14th century. The abstract black and white inlaid patterns and olive-green glaze reflect the transitional aesthetic that would later influence Buncheong ware. The rounded, elegant form is distinctively this period, with a rolled band rim that emphasizes its refinement. Sized perfectly for use as a sake cup, its compact form embodies both practicality and elegance.

There is a chip on the rim, but it is in good condition overall. The inside partially shows a slightly weathered surface, but it is already blended by use. It comes with a box.
