Joseon Dynasty Amber Glazed Small Vase with Incised Design

ASK

Price range : ¥50,000 - ¥250,000

An amber-glazed small vase fired in the late Joseon dynasty. The seven-faceted body is accentuated with engraved lines along the edges of each face. The tapered neck and attached grits on the foot further underscore its artisanal quality.

Amber-glazed ceramics with facetted designs were widely produced and used among the common people during the Joseon dynasty, with jars (Seogganju Jar) being the most common form. However, vases and bottles, especially of this smaller size, are exceedingly rare and seldom unearthed in recent excavations, enhancing this piece’s historical and artistic value—the piece with a sculptural beauty that invites appreciation even without a floral arrangement.

The vase shows some scratches on the glaze and minor chips on the foot, consistent with its age and use. However, the mouth remains intact with no significant damage or repairs, and the overall condition is excellent. It is housed in a high-quality Akita cedar box.
