Seto Ware Shino Style Mukozuke Dish with Bamboo Shoots Design
A Seto ware cylindrical mukōzuke dish from the late Edo period. This example belongs to the so-called “Revival Oribe” tradition, produced in emulation of Momoyama-period Shino and Oribe wares. Two bamboo shoots are adorned on the body, while the foot bears decorative spur marks. The glaze surface is animated by innumerable bubbles, lending the vessel a richly textured appearance. Not seemingly a mass-produced item, this is a relatively rare work within the Revival Oribe and E-Seto style. Well-suited for everyday use as a teacup or generously sized sake cup.
Traces of tea staining can be observed in the interior. Several old hairline cracks are visible at the rim, though most do not extend through to the opposite side.
