Joseon Dynasty Buncheong Ware Hakeme Type Jar
A Buncheong ware jar with “hakeme” (brush-marked) decoration, produced during the early Joseon dynasty. The vessel takes the form of a gently swelling, abacus-ball-shaped “shioge” silhouette, with a lightly incised, feather-like motif around the shoulder. A grey-blue glaze characteristic of Buncheong ware envelops the surface, creating a softly shifting, atmospheric effect.
Expressive brush marks, revealing the movement of the wheel and the potter’s hand, form the central feature of the composition. These energetic traces harmonise with the subdued glaze tone, lending the jar both vitality and restraint. Its bold yet serene presence makes it especially well-suited for display in an alcove.
Two small chips are visible along the rim. Areas of glaze loss are present, particularly around the interior, though most of the surface retains a healthy lustre. Accompanied by a box.
