Ko-Imari Blue and White Porcelain Cups, Set of Two
ARCHIVED
A pair of Old Imari choko cups, fired during the late Edo period. Each vessel has a gently curved form, decorated with a pale wash of cobalt (gosu) applied from the rim to the upper body using the dami shading technique. As the blue descends, it gradually dissolves into the white ground, while a fine iron-brown line encircling the rim provides a subtle visual counterpoint. The soft transition from indigo to white evokes the atmosphere of passing rain and clearing skies, lending the vessels a refreshing quality particularly suited to summer use.
One cup bears three minute restored chips. The other remains free from damage. Overall, the set is in good condition.
