A teabowl of Ofuke ware, fired during the early Edo period. Produced at the Kamita kiln, formerly situated between present-day Seto and Tajimi in central Japan, the bowl belongs to the early phase of Ofuke ware.

Its pleated rim recalls the form of a mukōzuke serving dish, yet the well-defined footring suggests that it may have been conceived as a teabowl from the outset. The well is coated with an iron wash, while the exterior is covered with the characteristic pale Ofuke glaze over which a bold stream of iron glaze has been poured. The bowl retains the vigorous spirit of Momoyama tea ceramics, where audacious design is balanced by refined craftsmanship. A rare example of early Ofuke ware, preserving the aesthetic vitality of the Momoyama period.

Apart from a few small chips to the rim, there are no notable defects, and the condition is excellent. Accompanied by a fitted wooden storage box.
