Joseon Dynasty Hoeryong Ware Olive Green Glazed Jar

ARCHIVED

A jar fired in Hoeryong or Myongchon in North Hamgyong Province in the latter half of the Joseon Dynasty. It has a bulgy torso and a short neck, leaving a swirl mark on the base. The olive green glaze, which seems to be a kind of iron glaze, is applied until the side of the base, but it is partially devitrified and brownish because the firing was not even. The incized ring pattern on the shoulder, which is probably drawn by the comb, is a rare decoration in the kiln where the degree of importance placed on practicality.

There are kiln scratches, partly unglazed spots, and some chips but the condition is generally good.
