Joseon Dynasty Hoeryong Ware Sea Cucumber Glazed Jar

ARCHIVED

A sea cucumber glazed jar fired in Hoeryong-gun or Myeongcheon-gun, North Hamgyong Province, during the late Joseon Dynasty. Ash glaze containing iron is applied to the interior and exterior, and straw ash glaze shows a bluish-white tone. It has a shape similar to that of abacus shaped bowl, but this flat and wide base form is unique. Also, it has the incised line decoration on the shoulder. The glaze pool in the corner of the interior is a particular feature due to the structure of the kiln in the area, and the same kiln effects can be seen in other examples.

It is in excellent condition with no noticeable damage.
