Seto Ware Two-tone Glazed Small Teabowl with Chattering Decoration
ARCHIVED
A small teabowl made in Seto during the late Edo period. Two types of iron glaze with different colour tones are applied to the slightly constricted semi-cylindrical shape body. While resembling a Seto and Mino ware design known as “Yoroi-de (samurai armour design),” this piece distinguishes itself with a more intricate and sophisticated design featuring deeply carved Tobi-kanna (chattering technique). Its elaborate design and shape not only make it suitable for tea ceremonies but also ideal for everyday use as a cup.
The piece is in excellent condition with no noticeable defects other than minor unglazed spots and kiln grits during the kiln process.
