Mino Ware Ofukei Glazed Dish with Underglaze Iron Printing Decoration

ARCHIVED

An Ofukai ware dish fired in Mino during the mid-Edo period. The thick and weighty body features a glazed body entirely, except for the bottom of the foot. Produced in various ancient Mino kilns from the late 17th century to the early 18th century, this piece distinguishes itself with its exceptional quality. A discreet print of probably an ‘arbour under the tree’ placed in the centre of a richly flavoured vessel is preferred.

This intact piece is a rare find among Ofukai ware from this era and is in excellent condition.
