Sukhothai Kingdom Sawankhalok Ware Jar with Underglaze Iron Decoration

ARCHIVED

A small jar fired in the Si Satchanalai kilns, known as Sawankhalok kilns, during the Sukhothai kingdom. The plump body is reminiscent of the Yuan dynasty style, adorned with elegant arabesque patterns and sectioned off with linework that adds a rhythmic, decorative effect. Notably, this piece was fired at a high temperature, resulting in an unusually hard texture for the Sawankhalok ware, typically known for its softer clay. The soft, pale blue speckles near the mouth contribute a subtle charm.

Apart from a minor chip on the mouth and typical kiln damages, there are no other noticeable defects and the jar is in excellent condition.
