Northern Song Dynasty Qingbai Ware Cup
ARCHIVEDA Qingbai ware porcelain cup fired in Jingdezhen during the Northern Song dynasty. It has a very thin and robust porcelain quality, and the glaze is white with a subtle bluish tint. Its nearly flat bottom bears traces of grit from the firing process.
Qingbai ware, known for its characteristic blue-tinged white porcelain, was widely produced in southern China during the Song dynasty. As a successor to Xing and Ding wares, which pioneered white porcelain, Qingbai is believed to have emerged in the latter half of the 11th century, as suggested by findings from inscribed tomb excavations. This cup, dating to the later period of Qingbai production, showcases the finest clay, a whiter and smoother surface, and the sharp, intricate craftsmanship that define its era. A true masterpiece that is worthy of a lifetime use and appreciation.
The cup is in excellent condition, with only minimal unglazed areas around the rim due to the upside-down firing method. It is housed in a box.
