Mino Ware Ash Glazed Fluted Small Plate
ARCHIVED
A small plate fired in Mino from the end of the Muromachi period to the Azuchi-Momoyama period. It is an example of precursor to Kiseto, characterised by a deep yellowish glaze colour, achieved through high-temperature firing in Ōgama (large kilns). The body has the depth, with fluted rim, and the glaze has been intentionally removed from the centre of the front face and inside the foot is painted with iron. Though many similar pieces have been unearthed from the Ohira and Naka kilns, finding one in such well-preserved condition is a rarity.
The plate has a slight wobble and exhibits minor hairline cracks around the rim, which do not extend to the reverse side.
