Joseon Dynasty Buncheong Ware Mishima-type Bowl

¥72,000 JPY

A Buncheong ware bowl, fired in the early Joseon dynasty. The form gently draws inward, enveloped in a blue-grey glaze of even tone. The decoration within the well may at first suggest hakeme (gwiyal in Korean) brushwork; in fact, it is a Mishima (sanggam in Korean) example, in which a comb-incised wave pattern has been inlaid with white slip. While Mishima types are typically characterised by stamped floral or geometric motifs, or bands of white inlay, examples such as this—centred on a flowing wave design—are exceedingly rare.

The surface shows little sign of dulling and retains an overall healthy lustre. A single hairline extends from the rim, with partial restoration. Apart from kiln imperfections, there are no other notable defects.
