Joseon Dynasty White Porcelain Teabowl
A white porcelain tea bowl, fired in the early Joseon dynasty at the kilns of Gwangju. The vessel is finely potted with thin, precise walls, and is evenly covered inside and out with a clear, pale blue-tinged glaze. A shallow circular depression (kagamiochi) is present in the well, while grains of kiln sand adhere to the footring from the firing process. Gwangju, home to official kilns and their affiliated workshops, was a centre for the continued production of high-quality white porcelain, and this work stands as a refined example of that tradition. It embodies the ideals of clarity and restraint aligned with the Neo-Confucian ethos that underpinned Joseon society.
A line resembling a crack does not extend through to the other side. Apart from minor surface wear, there are no notable defects, and the condition is good.
