Tang Dynasty Sancai Glazed Jarlet
ARCHIVED
A sancai-glazed jarlet, fired during the Tang dynasty. The vessel has a rounded body with a slender, constricted neck. Several horizontal bands encircle the body, over which green and amber glazes are applied atop a white slip. Through a wax-resist technique, the glazes run downward in streaks, revealing white mottled patterns in between. The poised, well-proportioned form stands in quiet contrast to the freely flowing movement of the glaze, creating a work characteristic of the fine Tang sancai wares.
There is a slight wobble, though the vessel stands securely. A minute chip is visible just below the rim. Apart from kiln imperfections, there are no other notable defects.
