Hasami Ware Blue and White Mug with Flower Design in Overglaze Red Enamel
ARCHIVEDA white porcelain mug produced in Hasami, Hizen, at the end of the Edo period. It was found wrapped in rice straw in an old house in Nagasaki. The ring design in underglaze cobalt blue is applied to the top and bottom, and the flower design in overglaze red enamel with different tones is painted on the body. It is presumed that the Nagasaki merchants’ union “Kompura Trading Company” or Dutch merchants, who came to Nagasaki, ordered for export. It has the same body and base diameter as the “Compra Bottle” baked in Hasami.
Although there are some scratches on the kiln and slight peeling of the color painting, the condition is extremely good because it is unused.
