Tamba Ware “Shiro-Tamba” White Slip Double Handled Jar

ARCHIVED

Shiro-Tamba (White Tamba) double-handled jar fired at the end of the Edo period. It forms a rounded shape with a rim band around the mouth, and a transparent glaze is applied to the white slip. Many types of jars, such as Uruka jars, had been produced in Tamba ware, but the double handled jars are relatively few especially white ones. The surface, which has changed over time, resembles the trunk of a camphor tree that shines through the leaves, and shows a serenely rich landscape.

There are no noticeable defects other than the kiln damage and chips on the mouth.
