Seto Ware Ofukei Glazed Long Plate with Scroll Design in Underglaze Iron, Set of 2

ARCHIVED

Long-square plates fired in the Seto in the late Edo period. After wheel building, shaped by press mould, four semiring legs are attached. The scroll pattern is drawn with an iron painting and applied with Ofukei glaze. This type of long dish, which was mainly used when eating sashimi and grilled fish, is one of the types that embody the food culture of the time. The shades of the highly transparent Ofukei glaze are beautiful.

Both have slight wobbling. There are no noticeable defects other than the old minor chips on the rim.
