Republic of China (1912–1949) Black Glazed Large Mug

¥32,000 JPY

A cylindrical handled vessel fired during the Republic of China period and produced in Agan Town, located in the mountains 20 kilometres south of Lanzhou City. Production of black-glazed pottery began in the area from the Song to Yuan dynasties and reached its zenith by the late 18th century with numerous ceramic producers. This piece is a handled cylindrical vessel created as Westernisation progressed, and the lines on the handle are reminiscent of the Cizhou ware that once influenced this kiln. A piece that embodies the simple yet profound beauty of Mingei folk art aesthetics of China.

There are minor kiln damages and scratches but no noticeable defects. The bottom is unglazed, so it is suggested to put the container when using it for flowers.
