Tang Dynasty Hongzhou Ware Celadon Teabowl
¥38,000 JPYA Hongzhou ware celadon teabowl fired during the Tang dynasty. It opens linearly from a flat-bottomed foot and is covered with a greenish-brown celadon glaze. The base is wide and unglazed, and four spur marks remain on the foot.
The Hongzhou ware was a celadon kiln from the end of the Eastern Han period to the Five Dynasties period. It is known for being mentioned in Lu Yu’s “The Classic of Tea,” the kiln site was discovered in 1977 during an archaeological survey of Luohu Village, Qujiang Town, Fengcheng City, Jiangxi Province. It is often confused with the Yuezhou ware celadon, which has a similar style, but the Hongzhou ware has thicker walls and is more practical. This piece is also simple and unadorned, and the highlight is the pale, devitrified natural glaze.
Some glaze flaking is around the rim, and the exterior is partially aged, but the interior is in good condition.
