Sukhothai Kingdom Sawankhalok Celadon Cup
A celadon cup fired at the Si Satchanalai kilns and Sawankhalok kilns during the Sukhothai period. It is a small body measuring less than 10cm in diameter with a curved rim. There are several unglazed spots in the glaze on the exterior, and the exposed part has a reddish, fine-grained earthen texture. While the influence of Longquan celadons is evident in celadons from the region, this piece’s appeal lies in its calm simplicity, which is beyond the influence. The plain pale blue glaze surface further adds to its understated charm.
Although the inside has a faint aged surface, it is not too rough, and the cup retains a good lustre overall. Other than natural kiln damages, there are no other noticeable defects.
