Kozai Ware Earthenware Teapot
An earthenware teapot fired in the Kozai area (Takamatsu city, Kagawa prefecture) in the Taisho to the early Showa periods. The bright orange surface, brought about by the colour of the clay, contrasts vividly with the green-painted bamboo handle. Kozai ware, established at the end of the Edo period, focused on producing functional household items for local communities in Kagawa and Okayama. Still, it was abandoned at the end of the Showa era, with the sparse kiln records. The teapot’s unique orange surface characteristic of its clay adds to its rustic appeal.
There are tea stains inside. Apart from kiln damages and carbonization at the bottom, there are no other noticeable defects, and the condition is excellent.
