Later Lê Dynasty Blue and White Dish with Bird and Tree Design

ARCHIVED

A blue and white dish fired during the Later Lê dynasty in Đại Việt (current northern Vietnam). This piece is the type called the Annan Shibori-te in Japan, as its blurred painting is reminiscent of Shibori dyeing on fabrics. It was made during the peak period of exported Vietnamese ceramics. It has a depth in shape, and the rim is slightly fluted. Draw a bird and tree branches in the centre of the front face and a ring line around them. Various birds are designed in Vietnam, such as birds of prey, geese, and familiar small birds. This piece is a realistic depiction of an eagle or hawk twisting its body and flapping its wings, and the blurring of cobalt accentuates the dynamic energy of the depiction.

Kiln damages and minor stains are present in several places. There are no other noticeable defects, and the condition is excellent.
