Tobe Ware Blue and White Porcelain Small Plates, Set of 5
Tobe ware small plates, set of five fired in the late Edo period. It has a slightly deep body with a rounded waist, and features a simple, extremely abstract pattern.
The Tobe ware is a porcelain kiln located in Tobe-cho, Iyo-gun, Ehime prefecture. With the cooperation of potters from the Nagayo kiln in Hizen, they succeeded in firing porcelain in 1777 after much trial and error. This piece was made at the Uehara kiln, which was in the early days of Tobe ware, and has a Kurawanka-style mass production that can be considered a tributary of Imari Ware, with abbreviated painting and Janome unglazed mark on the interior.
There are some distortions and mionor kiln dameges on the body, but none of the pieces have any acquired defects.
