Later Lê Dynasty Blue and White Teabowl with Plum and Floral Arabesque Design
A blue and white teabowl crafted in the Later Lê Dynasty in Đại Việt (present-day northern Vietnam). This piece exemplifies the artistry of Annamese ceramics during their peak as trade wares. The bowl features a high foot and an outward rim, with an iron slip applied inside the foot. Its solely-fired method leaves no traces of the upside-down or layered firing commonly seen in export ceramics.
The interior well is adorned with an intricate plum branch design, a hallmark of its exceptional craftsmanship. Its clear silvery-white glaze, lower foot, and hard firing distinguish it from other export pieces, reflecting its intended high quality for both trade and imperial court use.
Several short hairlines are visible in the crazing, and minor recolouring can be observed on rim chips, though these are limited to the exterior.
