Later Lê Dynasty Blue and White Faceted Small Jar with Lattice and Leaf Design
A small jar fired during the Later Lê Dynasty, Đại Việt (Northern Vietnam). It features a gently faceted, four-sided form with refined lotus petal decorations on the shoulder. The body showcases diamond lattice designs along the corners and grass motifs in windowed sections. The piece was produced as trade ceramics behind the Ming dynasty’s Haijin (sea ban), and a similar design of heirloom Beni-Annam (Vietnamese overglaze enamels) piece has been found in Japan. It is an excellent piece of Vietnamese ware that gives a relaxed impression while maintaining a refined and elegant style that is not inferior to the contemporary Chinese blue and white wares.
The inside is also glazed, making it practical. The edge of the mouth is slightly rough, and there is very little glaze flaking. Faint pen marks, likely made when the jar was discovered, remain on the base.
