Joseon Dynasty Blue and White Porcelain with Carp Design
ARCHIVED
A blue and white porcelain bowl fired in the late Joseon dynasty. It has a bulgy body features carp and water plants painted with a unique brushstroke. The fish is a recurring motif in Korean ceramics and symbolises auspicious meanings that vary across periods and regions. This piece features the simple painting typical of folk kilns, and the transparency of the glaze enhances it with a fresh, lively quality.
While the bowl has several hairlines, they blend seamlessly with the natural crazing of the glaze.
