Ming Dynasty Lingwu Ware Black Glazed Small Jar with Incised Wave Pattern

ARCHIVED

A small jar fired in the Ningxia region during the late Yuan to early Ming period, produced at kilns located around present-day Lingwu City. The body is coated in a black glaze and decorated with combed concentric lines and a band of rippling wave motifs.

This area, once ruled by the Tangut people, fostered a cultural sphere distinct from that of the Chinese heartland, as evidenced by the creation of its own era names and the Western Xia script. The undulating rhythm of the wave band encircling the vessel recalls the decorative cadence seen on Hellenistic amphoriskoi, evoking the western influences that flowed through this oasis region along the Silk Road.

A minotr hairlinr is visible on the rim, and light surface scratches can be observed on the body. Aside from these, there are no significant flaws, and the overall condition is good.
