Joseon Dynasty Buncheong Ware Gyeryongsan Kiln Hakeme-type Bowl
A Buncheong ware bowl from the Gyeryongsan (계룡산) kilns, fired in the early Joseon dynasty. The bowl displays the characteristic features associated with Gyeryongsan type—long regarded in Japan as a distinctive strand within the Buncheong ware—including a well retaining traces of sand, a compact and neatly finished foot, and a sharply lustrous glaze. Across the interior, sweeping hakeme (gwiyal, 귀얄) brushstrokes, heavily charged with white slip, describe a broad arc that encircles the surface with immediacy and force.
On the exterior, a single area of kiln adhesion remains, forming an unintentional yet quietly evocative accent. Gesture, material, and the conditions of firing come together here in a direct and unmediated expression, embodying the rustic vitality that defines Gyeryongsan Buncheong ware.
The surface retains a healthy overall lustre, and the condition is excellent. Accompanied by a fitted wooden box.
